Universal and Illumination’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has rocketed to the top of the 2026 box office, earning a massive $34.5 million on its opening day — the biggest single-day haul of the year so far, even edging out the first film’s $31 million debut back in 2023. Internationally, the film pulled in another $33.9 million across 78 markets, bringing its global opening day total to $68.4 million, with projections pointing to a jaw-dropping $360–$375 million worldwide by the end of its five-day opening weekend. Directed once again by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, the star-studded animated sequel sends Mario, Luigi, and friends into outer space to battle Bowser and his son Bowser Jr., with Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Jack Black all returning to their beloved roles.
