fascinating developments

Two fascinating developments in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in film this week, which DCP Solutions is looking at with interest. What is happening will fundamentally change film DCP creation and mastering processes.

First off what looks like a mixed message from Netflix about its use of AI on Argentinian science fiction series El Eternauta (The Eternaut). A Netflix boss says AI will help creators make films and TV shows better, not just cheaper, while also saying the tech will allow the streamer to make things more cheaply. Cost versus creativity?

In India, where directors apparently don’t own their films, producers have dealt a blow to their artistic vision and authorship by planning to re-release a 2013 film with a new AI-generated ‘happy’ ending. According to the Guardian, this upcoming re-release is a sign film producers across the world are trying out AI tools in filmmaking. In Hollywood, creators are already using AI for voice cloning, dubbing, and visual effects, and in 2023, fears about AI generating scripts and using actors’ likenesses played a key role in industry strikes.

At DCP Solutions this is changing the way we are looking at digital cinema packages.
